Oh the wonderful things that come from the heart and mouth of our children... wonder what the next ones will add???
Not only do the days of childhood fly swiftly though time, so does the wonderful language they personally develop from little ears learning the sounds and rythyms unique to geography as well as culture. I never want to forget they way they first said some things, important things and how we knew exactly what they meant even if no one else did.
As we were driving out of town back to the country, we passed the familiar gates of the Country Club to which TR clearly announced, "there's the Crunchy Cwub, Tahtee." I just loved it, and I began to think of the fun things they said and do say...
KG would grab our necks and whisper "I love loo." or procure a stick while begging Poppy to take her to the tank and "get the lucky stuff" (green slimy moss) out of the water. Will you stay right with Poppy,... "less I will" would be the common and wonderfully KG response.
Remember when we were trying to call him Trustin? and his brother staunchly stated,
"zhu not call him Trustin, he Shiwoh!"
or no longer will he be Poppy, according to Stets, he's "PopaTonk".
He told me just yesterday that there was a huge problem with his little brother's grooming habits, "we gonna haffa cut Shiwoh's toneynails Tahtee, they are sharp!" well, yes we will!
... and again with the appropriate names, Stets tells me, "I call her Tainey, but Twooooyyyy calls her Kaylyn" (with that drawl that only this one can capture!)
He told me not long ago that his favorite teacher is "misssss Iwwwennnne", and both boys love "misss Mawgaweet from the crunchy cwub". Who can resist??
As his big sister is now into spelling things so the 3 year olds don't get it, she importantly asked.. "is Dad H-O-M-E?" to which little brother seriously retorted, "no he's Jeffrey Todd!"
(reminds me of Ellena's announcement to Nana about the eggs in her tummy *big sister had been learning about reproduction in elementary terms* and Ellena assured her Nana "well I'll tell you one thing Nana, there's no chickens in there!")
As soon as I get into their car, TR will ask me for my phone with pictures to scroll through, or better yet... "do you have your "cackalater", Tahtee?" do you find it interesting that he'd be asking ME for a calculator??? me too!
Having boys has been such a trip for this grandmother, and trucks, tractors and tools are the stuff of little boy conversations. Troy's first real tool was a screwdriver which he demanded was a dedaw (not to be confused with KG word for hotdogs, "dedawgs"). Both boys must have "measurers" and no telling how many have been bought and broken and bought again by their Poppy (PoppaTonk). Hammy's were a close second to the dedaws and measurers for both boys. In fact as I write this, Troy just called to tell me he and Stets were perusing the local "man hangout", Lowes, and I hear Troy repeatedly telling our grandson... "don't take the keys out Stetson... put them back... okay where does this one go?" (I remember the last time I did this and both boys brought me a handful of little keys from all the lawnmowing equipment they'd "tried out". We secretly left them on the desk of the attending "helper person". Hopeing they didn't see us go, but the next time we came in betrayed the fact that they HAD SEEN, and we had a close attendant our entire visit.
The natural way these country kids grow up is so refreshing, but perhaps KG teacher thought otherwise when KG drew her horse anatomically correct as a stallion and proceeded to explain her additional "parts" to the class. It took us a bit to understand the work that TR was attempting with his little arms making the cowboy motions and his adament voice telling his dad.. "we gonna hip up doooose cows and back they up!!!" whatever that means... but I'm sure it had to do with some of those more unpleasant cowboy duties of rounding up the herd for shots, fly med, and other non-mentionable tasks that "cowboys" do. (even little cowboys think they are doing it too!)
Hummmm it's about lunchtime here, so I think I may go make some of TR's favorite, "macamoni" but no "taters"! I just love these words and the chuckle they bring this Tahtee's heart.... hummm it's their little hearts that gave me my best name, Tahtee!
